Dear Valued Contacts,
IWIRC x Acrostics Asia: Southeast Asia Restructuring Evolution was a full house on Wednesday, 29 July 2026!
Lauren Tang, Dr Hamonangan Syahdan Hutabarat, Fiona Foong and Thuy Huynh presented the latest restructuring developments across Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam to audience members who attended both in person and virtually.
Grateful to the speakers for sharing their perspectives during the panel discussion that I had the privilege of moderating.
We covered topics including the move in Malaysia and Indonesia towards the UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency, the cross-class cramdown mechanism used in Singapore and Malaysia, as well as Vietnam’s new Rehabilitation and Bankruptcy Law.

We actually received feedback from some attendees that they wished the session were longer. For those who would like to continue the discussion on themes such as legislative reform across the region, do check out the IWIRC Asia Regional Conference hosted by IWIRC Malaysia that will take place in September.
Glad to have caught up with some friends and made new ones at IWIRC x Acrostics Asia!
A special shout-out to Robert Schmitz who took the time to attend the event and thoughtfully contributed to the Q&A session. Rob is a veteran financial adviser with decades of experience across Asia, including flag carrier Garuda Indonesia’s second restructuring in 2006.
AmazingTech’s Singapore Liquidators Obtain First-Ever Bahraini Foreign Recognition: GRR
A Bahraini court has recognized a foreign proceeding under its cross-border insolvency framework adopting the UNCITRAL Model Law for the first time, following an application from KordaMentha, the liquidators of Singaporean crypto exchange operator AmazingTech, Global Restructuring Review (GRR) reported.
Al Doseri Law acted as the local counsel in coordination with international law firm DLA Piper, according to the Bahraini law firm’s press release.
Thailand Moves Towards Pre-Packaged Rehabilitation Regime: INSOL Asia
As part of its ongoing insolvency law reforms, Thailand proposed to introduce a pre-packaged rehabilitation regime that would allow a debtor to negotiate the principal terms of a rehabilitation plan with its creditors before filing an application with the court, according to an article published by INSOL Asia Hub.
Thailand’s model is inspired by the pre-packaged Chapter 11 practice in the US, where a debtor may negotiate and solicit creditor support for a reorganization plan before filing for Chapter 11 protection, allowing the subsequent court proceeding to focus on confirmation rather than lengthy negotiation.
