🌻 APAC’s First GPU Syndicated Loan
The Taiwan unit of US-based GMI Cloud has become the first borrower from Asia Pacific to bring graphics processing unit (GPU)-backed financing into the realm of syndicated loans, IFR reported on 17 July 2026.
The NTD 14.05 billion (USD 438 million) loan for GMI Cloud Phoenix relies heavily on industry titan Nvidia being a quasi-partner – rather than a straightforward offtaker – as a result of a revenue‑sharing and credit support framework, according to IFR. CTBC is the mandated lead arranger and bookrunner.
GPUs are the backbone of AI processing, playing an increasingly important role in data centres, according to an industry publication.
🌻 Australian Data Centre Bond
CDC has successfully priced the first Australian investment-grade senior secured data centre bond, joint lead manager HSBC said in its LinkedIn post.
CDC’s AUD 700 million debut senior secured bond attracted “overwhelming interest” from investors across Australia, Asia and Europe, according to the post.
“Australia’s data centre build-out has been one of the world’s largest. As rising demand for cloud and AI capability drives investment in the sector, we are seeing issuers turn to local and global credit markets for funding diversification,” Andrew Duncan, Head of Debt Capital Markets at HSBC Australia and New Zealand, said.
🌻 Mongolia’s SOE Reform
Mongolia has taken a concrete step toward reforming its state-owned enterprises (SOEs), signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Franklin Templeton, according to Capital Markets Mongolia (CMM).
The plan is to consolidate SOE shares under a National Investment Fund and list them on domestic and international capital markets by 2027.
“This reform feels different from previous attempts,” CMM wrote in a note. “Past initiatives rarely advanced beyond domestic policy announcements. This one brings a global asset manager to the table, and that alone makes it more promising than anything the last three decades have produced.”
⏩ On the Move
Julia Hoggett, CEO of London Stock Exchange (LSE), and Susan Langley, the Lady Mayor of London, welcomed Madam Thao Nguyen Thi Phuong, Chairwoman of Sovico Group, and senior leaders from HDBank, VietJet Air, Vikki Digital Bank and HD Securities to London, according to LSE’s LinkedIn post.
The visit included a market open ceremony and a fixed income-focused roundtable, aimed at accelerating Vietnamese businesses’ access to international investors through London’s capital markets and build on an MoU signed earlier this year.
🔤 Trivia Mania
Check out this LinkedIn post on the origins of the word “ketchup”.
Every American diner I’ve ever been to has a bottle of Heinz on the table. White cap, glass bottle, the whole ritual of slapping the base to get it out. Ketchup. As American as apple pie. Here’s what I didn’t know until recently: The word “ketchup” is Hokkien.
